Sometimes you encounter that provider of care, especially in residential programs where elegance comes together with competence and functionality. Absolute Eldercare does that and if you knew its owner, Elena, you would understand where the commitment comes from.
A relentless care zealot, she made the decision to create multiple programs that would serve multiple populations from the medically fragile elderly to the mentally ill to those with traumatic brain and other catastrophic injuries. Her bases of operation are the Michigan cities of Bloomfield Hills, West Bloomfield and Southfield.
What does it take to make quality, small-scale assisted living work while being profitable? Two, (2) main things:
- Understanding it takes a team including certain corporate partners to achieve your goals
- Accepting and executing true person-centeredness
When these crucial elements come together, a mature provider combines the skill sets of numerous players to achieve an operation worthy of praise. This requires that the provider build relationships early within the medical, case management, home health, specialty medical and medical needs transportation communities. In addition there has to be a commitment to creating and maintaining an environment that fulfills the entire person.
This requires knowledge of their interests in:
- Diet
- Recreation
- Relaxation
- Companionship
It also requires an intimate knowledge of their clinical needs. After all a home has to ensure there is a continuum of care and focus on whatever issues may have already been present when the resident arrives and that which may occur after admission. Elena gets that.
It is true that some do not. Click Here for a video on why so many group homes fail.

There are many pieces that have to go into effective group home management. When these programs are properly managed, they can be major contributors to care along the continuum and can be a wonderful alternative to institutional placement. It cannot happen unless attention is paid to all of the important ingredients that make a program work.
Stay tuned to this blog for program updates, open house events and more in this wonderful small care community.
