Its easy to critique and to criticize those whom we choose for management roles in assisted living programs. The group home manager is no different. However, their work is so versatile and their responsibilities so immense that they become a member of several professions during each shift. These auxiliary roles include housekeeper, secretary, bookkeeper, social worker, psychologist and referee.
At the same time they must ensure that the home is operated in a regulatory compliant manner. This includes monitoring medication administration, the home’s sanitation program and the documentation of other staff. To be sure, its a lot to oversee!
It can be especially difficult when they must double in their roles as personal caregivers, care coordinators for residents, drivers and assistants to owners for regulatory response and other duties. Add to this a need to fill-in when staff calls off and you have a need for a truly flexible and seasoned person.
Enter the The Manager’s Guide for Group Home Leadership, a digital publication every group home manager should order and every group home/assisted living owner should order for those you place in leadership positions. In it a manager is given routines he/she can use to keep every day more efficient, tips to create a less stressful work environment and techniques for coaching subordinates in a way that maximizes people performance.
Its a handy item to have on a phone or tablet at work as a reference for when those trying situations occur.
